Ixia is a variety of flowering plant that grows from a bulb and will come back every year in the right position. It originates from Africa so likes a sunny spot and should ideally be mulched (covered over with leaf litter) in winter to protect from frost. The bright, colourful flowers appear on long wiry stems and there are blade-like leaves. They are a source of interest, being unusual to English gardens but easy to grow. You get six bulbs with this order, in a mixture of colours, pink, orange, yellow, white etc. Just dig a little hole about 15 cm deep, put the bulbs in and cover with soil then firm down and water well at first.
