Hardy tree ferns have a thick mass of roots that form a trunk. They grow large, up to three metres tall with palm-like fronds. This species of plant is perfect as a feature in a 'tropical' garden or for a pre-historic theme. They prefer damp soil so plant them in a semi-shaded area, sheltered from cold winds. Foliage may die off below -2 degrees but they are hardy to -10 degrees.
