Succulents
Succulent plants; Sempervivens and Sedums are ideal for well-drained soils such as the edge of paths or even roof-tops. They have an attractive range of colours from mottled greens, dusty yellows and pinks through to rusty reds. They are frequently used in in stony areas and dry gardens to create an illusion of lushness and in these locations may also defray run-off by absorbing storm water, rather than allowing it to rush off into down-pipes and gullies. This has brought them into the spotlight over recent years, with the aim of improving the environment, through our gardens. Succulents are generally quite versatile, they can be planted in terrariums and brought indoors quite successfully. Some people make a very good hobby out of this.
