This ornamental variety is Epimedium grandiflorum 'Lilafee' the common name is 'Bishop's Mitre' or 'Barrenwort'. It is a clump-forming perennial with heart-shaped, green leaves, copper-red and brown when young. It has violet-purple flowers with spurs. It grows to about 30 cm height and spreads about one metre across. It will thrive in partial shade and flowers March to April. Supplied as sections of bare roots, it will not come in a pot or container but wrapped up in a bag for protection. To plant it simply dig a hole, place the root in with the bud just showing above the surface, back-fill with soil then firm down and water well. You can buy one, two or three budding sections of bare-root with this order.
